A foundational training for: yoga teachers, wellness instructors, mental health professionals, and anyone wishing to deepen their understanding of this profound practice.

Training Overview

This LEVEL 1 training introduces participants to the power of Classical Yoga Nidra, a systematic method of conscious relaxation that supports emotional & nervous system regulation and strengthens the neural pathways that support your goals.

Participants will learn how to understand the principles and benefits, enhance their self-practice, and guide Classical Yoga Nidra safely and effectively in group or one-on-one settings.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this 12 hour training, you will:

1. Understand the Foundations of Classical Yoga Nidra

  • Describe what Yoga Nidra is, how it works, and how it differs from meditation.
  • Understand the historical roots, philosophical context, and the role of the yoga elements such as the “layers of being” and yoga “foundational practices”. 

2. Explore the Science Behind the Practice

  • Explain the neuroscience of Yoga Nidra, including brainwave states, neuroplasticity, and nervous system regulation.
  • Understand how Yoga Nidra supports stress reduction, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing.

3. Experience and Analyze the Structure of a Classical Yoga Nidra Session

  • Identify and understand each stage of the traditional Yoga Nidra sequence.
  • Explore different styles and applications, including morning vs. evening practices.

4. Develop Skills to Facilitate Classical Yoga Nidra

  • Learn how to prepare and deliver effective Yoga Nidra scripts.
  • Practice voice modulation, pacing, energy and presence to guide sessions confidently.
  • Create a safe, supportive environment using props, positioning, and trauma sensitive considerations.

5. Build Confidence in Personal and Professional Practice

  • Deepen your own Yoga Nidra practice.
  • Gain the tools to incorporate Yoga Nidra into yoga classes, wellness programs, therapeutic environments, and self-care.

Prerequisite: 

We will introduce the essential yoga elements that form the foundation of the Classical Yoga Nidra practice, making this training accessible and beneficial to all who appreciate the profound benefits of Yoga Nidra.

You’ll leave feeling restored and resourced, as well as equipped with the skills to guide others into that same space of deep rest and renewal.

Note: A future LEVEL II Classical Yoga Nidra Training will offer a deeper exploration of these learning areas, including advanced supportive techniques, methods for adapting sessions to a variety of needs and settings, approaches for working with diverse populations, expanded experiential practice, and further development of facilitation skills. Prerequisite: LEVEL I training above.

About Julia Long

Julia Long (Dharma Gian Kaur) is a Registered Yoga Alliance Instructor (RYT-500) and also a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). She is an Advanced Sivananda Yoga Teacher, a certified California College of Ayurveda (CCA) Yoga Nidra Teacher Trainer, and a Kundalini Yoga Teacher. She has been teaching and providing CCA Yoga Nidra sessions in groups and privately for many years, totalling well over 500 sessions. She is currently the only Classically-based Yoga Nidra Teacher Trainer in Canada (CCA-YN). With over 1,000 hours of training, Julia is well-versed in hatha, functional movement, yin, flows, and classical practices.

Julia is also a certified Workplace Mindfulness Facilitator and an Applied Neuroplasticity Facilitator and offers sessions in workplaces, including Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Strategies. A sought-after speaker, presenter and teacher trainer, Julia blends science, movement, mindfulness, strategic visualization and mindset to inspire transformation in high-stress environments.

The more Julia studies the more she realizes she needs to learn! Julia has classed herself as a “mobile yoga service provider” travelling internationally to talk, teach and study.
